This is a locomotive of the so-called feldtbahn type or 'brigade locomotive' which was built in large numbers for the German armed forces during the First World War.

The locomotives are eight-coupled tank locomotives made as wet steam engines with Stephenson's slide control. After the war, many locomotives were sold to industries around the world. However, OBJ's brigade locomotive was never used in the war, but was sold completely newly manufactured as surplus equipment.

'Emsfors' was bought by Emsfors mill for traffic on their railway to Påskallavik. When the operation was discontinued, the locomotive was bought by OBJ and renovated and has since done good service in traffic.

Like Emsfors, this is a so-called brigade locomotive. Locomotive 3 remained in the Baltics after the First World War, and served in both Latvia and Lithuania before being returned to Germany towards the end of the Second World War.

The locomotive then served with the German national railways. After decommissioning, the locomotive to Sweden was bought by Hans Näckdal in Mårdsund, who intended to build a museum railway in northern Sweden. However, the locomotive was too heavy for his track, so the locomotive was replaced in 1983 with OBJ's locomotive No. 7 from Smedjebacken's rolling mill.

This machine was made in 1944 for a Polish sugar factory. Later it came to serve on the Polish state railways (PKP) until OBJ bought it from there in 1975 to have as a traffic locomotive.

Since the purchase, the locomotive has been used extensively in traffic and is particularly suitable as a training machine as it has a spacious cab to be a 600 mm locomotive. In the 80s, the locomotive got a new tender when the old one had worn out.

In 1994, the locomotive received a new tube set and was intended to use this for about 15 years, but as early as 1996, the boiler showed signs of weakness, which is why the locomotive was shut down. The locomotive is now ready after a complete overhaul and has received a new boiler.

This locomotive was manufactured by Orenstein & Koppel in 1929 for Smedjebackens Valsverk, where locomotive got no. 6 and did good service with several similar locomotives until 1959 when it was shut down. In 1965, the locomotive underwent a minor overhaul at the rolling mill's industrial school before being handed over to our colleagues Östra Södermanlands Järnväg in Mariefred in 1967.

They had the locomotive until 1977 when we on the Ohsabanan acquired it through a barter deal. In Ohs there was already a similar locomotive, Smedjebackens Valsverk nr 7 (O&K 6770/1914), this locomotive was renovated in the early 1980s and then changed to Nr. 3 "German locomotive" and can be seen today up in Smedjebacken.

At the end of the 1980s, the dismantling and renovation of our "Smedjebacken" also began, the renovation unfortunately stopped due to various circumstances.

But in the late 1990s, a happy bunch of young people took over the project to get the locomotive together so that it was possible to show off in any case. But shame on the one who gives up, after new production of many parts such as. regulator, valve stand, etc., the locomotive could roll out of the workshop for its own machine one day in June 2004.

Today, the locomotive is almost finished but is not used in regular traffic as it is a bit weak and has too small storage for our long course.
